Our fave student hangouts to get your SHUFL on

Calling all students – freshers looking to break the ice with fellow newbies or returners re-connecting with your Uni mates – it’s time to get your SHUFL on and slide into the new academic year!  Here’s our guide to some of our favourite student SHUFL hang-outs this Autumn.

If you’re studying in Leeds then Manahatta is the only place in Headingley to go for a spot of shuffleboard. With two 18ft SHUFL tables in the Tap Room, it’s only £15 per hour – that’s less than £2 per head if you have two teams of four playing – and students can also take advantage of budget maxing half price shuffleboard all day Monday or Sunday to Friday until 6pm. Think you’ve found your sport? Why not compete in their free-to-enter Shuffleboard tournaments every Tuesday from 9pm for your chance to win a crate of beer!

Cambridge scholars looking to bond over a beer and a game of shuffleboard would do well to gravitate to the Grain & Hop, Regent Street, just a hop, skip and a jump from some of the famous Cambridge University colleges.  If you get peckish while sliding some pucks on their two 16-foot Grand Champion shuffleboards, there’s a tasty selection of pick n mix beer food and wing stacks along with the classic pub fare and burger offer.

Up in Liverpool, Roxy Ballroom, Hanover Street offers a bar gamer’s paradise with two tournament-grade 22-foot shuffleboards alongside pool, beer pong and ping pong. Serving a variety of craft beer and signature cocktails, it’s all set to the best rock and indie soundtrack.  It’s just £12 per hour for a table but if you’re feeling flush, go all out and do a student double table takeover.

Back down in Chiswick, The Tabard is a community pub that counts Arts Educational drama college as one of its neighbours and makes a great after-show party venue for aspiring thespians.  Serving up shuffleboard every day and with regular tournaments on Wednesdays from 8pm, you could even nab you and your mates a £50 voucher to spend in the pub. That’s sure to make you some friends in no time!

Manchester freshers, can we tempt you to a game of shuffleboard at 7 Sins, Lever Street in the Northern Quarter? This subterranean basement arcade bar is designed to lure you into its lair with neon lights and bold graffiti, themed on the seven deadly sins.  At just £7.50 per hour, a few games of shuffleboard certainly won’t bust your budget and there’s even 50% off before 7pm.  Your new friends are going to love the devilishly delicious cocktails; sinful burgers, sharers and brunches; and gluttonous desserts of cherry and marshmallow cheesecake, which ensure that this bar lives up to its name.
