Oslo has a special place in our hearts: this is where our shuffleboard story began.

It’s a well-known fact that Norwegians know their way around a shuffleboard and, as you’d expect, they’re pretty spoilt for choice when it comes to places to play it. But with so many to choose from, where to go first?  We’ve done the hard work for you and sussed out the top places to play shuffleboard in our home city, Oslo.

So, whether you’re a local or just visiting on a weekend break, here are our top five Oslo SHUFL hotspots:

Located in the heart of Oslo, you’ll find Kullt – a true shuffleboard hotspot – right by Rådhusplassen, overlooking Aker Brygge and Kontraskjæret. It boasts no less than six of our Grand Champion 22-footers, perfect for shuffleboard enthusiasts, and claims to have Norway’s largest indoor charcoal grill, serving up a smorgasbord of grilled meat, fish and seafood – so definitely our hottest Oslo shuffleboard spot!!!;-)

We love their ‘Play with Fire’ menus, which we think could be suggestive of your mindset when you hit the shuffleboards, although in reality they are sharing menus for a minimum of four people to refuel you after you’ve played.

Just here to sip and slide?  You won’t be disappointed.  Their centrepiece bar serves up classic cocktails, signature drinks and a large beer and wine selection.  As well as shuffleboard, games lovers can play billiards, pinball and darts. There are also DJs on Friday and Saturday nights and, in the summer, stunning views from Kullt’s rooftop beer garden out towards Honnørbryggen and the fjord.

It’s game on at Hasle Linie Gastropub for those who like a serving of good old-fashioned pub grub with their games!  Hasle Linie Gastropub, Bokkerveien 4, has a menu of hearty gastropub classics such as burgers, fish and chips and bangers and mash as well as some finger-licking bar snacks and charcuterie platters.

Sports’ fans are spoilt for choice: three of our finest Grand Champion full size shuffleboard tables; three Modern darts from our sister brand OCHE; and never miss a sporting fixture with a full line-up of TV sports coverage shown on eight big screens.  There are also board games, Nintendo Switch, retro arcade games, an old boxing machine from a funfair and ladder golf – that’s hours of fun, we reckon!

One for the beer lovers:  Beer Palace, Holmens gt.3, has an impressive 34 taps and a beer selection to die for.  We challenge you not to find a beer you love here, just ask the bartender to help you navigate the bewildering selection.

So now you’ve selected your beer you can slide on over to one of two 22ft Grand Champion shuffleboards and let some pucks fly.  Ready to sample another pint from Beer Palace’s vast selection?  You can also catch a game of football on one of the big screens, play darts or if it’s 7pm on a Sunday then you can try and bag at prize at their regular pub quiz.

If a visit to Beer Palace has given you a thirst for more beer knowledge, you can always book onto one of their International Beer Tasting courses and brush up on your beer knowledge.

Kullt, Hasle Linie Gastropub and Beer Palace are just three of seven Akershusgruppen bars in Oslo featuring SHUFL tables.

Culture vultures – this one’s for you: Kulturhuset i Oslo Youngs Gate 6 is a cool cultural centre for the experience hungry.   Translating as ‘culture house’, Kulturhuset is on a mission to bring people together to share experiences – these guys are completely on our wavelength!

It’s a 2000m2 hive of activity, split over three floors with four bars, dedicated rooms and a backyard open air space.  Pay the third floor a visit and discover the play room, featuring four of our Championship-grade full-size tables.

Kulturhuset will give you a real taste of the Oslo cultural scene with a dynamic programme of debates, live concerts, dancing and games.  Plus, there’s great coffee, drinks and a food menu showcasing Nordic flavours and healthy sustainable seasonal produce – and did we mention waffles and ice cream?  The venue is also home to Oslo’s most social open office space – we’re just not sure how much work you’d get done there?!

Just wanna’ have fun?  Then Oslo Bar & Bowling in the centre of Oslo in the same building as Oslo Streetfood, takes some beating. This is an entertainment centre in a league of its own with everything in one place.

A great option for both small and large groups of all ages, there’s a 12-lane ten-pin bowling alley with electronic scoring, which turns up the volume and pace during its disco bowling sessions at the weekends.  A shuffleboard lounge features five of our 22-footers and comes complete with a dedicated beer bar.  There’s also a billiard lounge with four billiard tables and plenty of seating.

Look out for shuffleboard tournaments here, hosted by the Oslo Shuffleboard League (Oslo Shuffleliga) and organised by the 2018 and 2019 European Shuffleboard Champion Yvla Thorsrud.

To avoid disappointment, we’d advise that you check-in with individual venues regarding booking policies and Covid-19 special arrangements.
