Our pick of the craft beers to sip and slide with at Craft Beer Rising

18th February 2019SHUFL Community

We’re looking forward to getting our SHUFL on at Craft Beer Rising Festival at The Old Truman Brewery, London from 21-23 February, so if you haven’t already, grab some tickets and join us.

A game of SHUFL and a pristine pint of craft beer go hand in hand. It’s the ultimate ‘savour the moment’ experience, having fun with the people you like best in a great venue and the beer, just possibly, tastes even better because of it.

In anticipation, here’s our take on the top five craft beers to sip and slide with at CBR:

Goose Island’s Honkers Ale (4.3% ABV)

As our Champion shuffleboard tables come all the way from Texas, we had to include a US brew. From the Chicago brewery that brought European beer styles to the US, we give you Honkers, a nod to the English bitter style. A clear amber with some effervescence, the first impression is that of mild English hops aromas, sweet malts and an earthy yeastiness. Perfectly balanced, the floral and spicy hop notes embrace the sweet caramel and biscuity malts. A great session beer.

Big Drop (Alcohol free)

With the current trend for low and no alcohol beers, we had to share our current favourite alcohol-free tipple. Big Drop Brew’s Stout is an award-winning beer that is so big on taste it’s even beaten alcoholic stouts in competition – that’s how good
it is! Authentic and full of flavour, if you’re a designated driver or you’re cutting back, forget the sugary soft drinks and choose this instead. With sweetness, cacao and vanilla, the roasted malts give it a rich, bitter coffee note. It’s sure to give you the edge on the SHUFL  playfield.

Wolfpack Lager (5.2% ABV)

Because as fellow sport players, we identify with the competitive and ‘social animal’ spirit of Wolfpack, created by two former professional Saracen rugby players. Described as an ‘untamed, alpha male’ lager, Wolfpack lager has growling hop character and a robust mouthfeel. Brewed to bold Bavarian methods and barely reined in by sweet melon and a snarl of pepper.

Toast Ale Purebread Pale Ale (4.5% ABV)

Because we applaud what it stands for: socially responsible, giving something back and ‘waste not want not’ values. Brewed with
unwanted bread and with all profits donated to charity to reduce food waste, it’s rightfully an award-winning beer. Purebread is a fully flavoured Pale Ale with a clear hop aroma from Cascade, Centennial and Chinook hops, and moderate bitterness and body that results in a well-balanced beer. Some fruity notes. As they say themselves, the best thing since….

Tiny Rebel Cwtch Welsh Red Ale (4.6% ABV)

Because we love the Banksy-esque, crazy branding of the beers from this Welsh brewery. Cwtch (rhymes with butch), which can mean either cuddle or cubbyhole, is an untraditional Welsh red ale featuring a perfect blend of six caramelly malts and three citrussy American hops. Tiny Rebel say they selected some of the most aromatic and tangy hops from the other side of the pond to give this red a fresh hit that complements the caramel flavours of the malts that gives this beer its colour. Drinkability
and balance make this beer.

See you in the CBR Cellar to discover these and many more outstanding craft beers. Here’s to finding your perfect match on the shuffleboard!
